Now Is the Time to Start Treating Bushes With Acidic Fertilizer; Here’s Why

Blueberry bushes are heavy feeders that thrive in acidic soil with a pH between 4.0-5.5.

To keep your blueberry plants healthy and productive, it's crucial to fertilize them with an acidic fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins.

This provides the key nutrients they need for lush foliage, abundant flowers, and a bountiful harvest.

Some of the best acidic fertilizers for blueberries include: Ammonium sulfate Ammonium nitrate Sulfur-coated urea Elemental sulfur Iron sulfate

These fertilizers provide nitrogen in an ammonium form that blueberries prefer, along with other essential nutrients like sulfur and iron.

Applying an acidic fertilizer in spring gives the plants a nutrient boost for active growth, flowering, and fruit development throughout the season.

A second application 6-8 weeks later in late spring or early summer provides an extra nutrient kick as the plants are setting fruit.
