Strawberry alert: How to effectively wash away pesticides
Vinegar Solution
Fill a bowl with 4 parts cold water to 1 part white vinegar. Submerge the strawberries and let soak for 5 minutes.
The vinegar helps kill bacteria and remove pesticides. Rinse the berries with cold water afterwards and gently pat dry
Soak for 5 minutes to draw out any larvae or worms. Rinse with cold water and pat dry to remove any lingering salt
Baking Soda Solution
Mix 2 teaspoons of baking soda with 1 quart of water. Soak the strawberries in the solution for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly under running water.
The baking soda helps remove pesticide residues.
Washing strawberries in a vinegar, salt or baking soda solution, followed by a thorough rinse, is an effective way to remove pesticides and ensure your berries are clean and safe to eat.
